Algeria’s multi-millionaire Abdelmoumen Khalifa who is involved in the so-called century scandal survived an assassination attempt in Britain and France, according to investigations conducted by the UK security forces.

According to a document issued by the UK justice office,  Khalifa who in prison before his extradition says that three policemen came to visit him in August 2008. They were carrying documents but they did not allow him to read them.

They asked him about his name and told him that they have information about a plan to murder him.

“They showed me a document with the police logo. I said that Abdelmoumen Khalifa was accused by the Algerian government of stealing huge sums. Some people planned to kill me while the Algerian authorities were preparing for my extradition with the help of the UK government,” the same document reported citing Khalifa.

It added that Khalifa alleged that he was asked to sign the document without reading it. The meeting with the policemen lasted for few minutes only.

Khalifa also alleged that he made some comments about his situation in prison. The UK policemen told him they would stay with him because he might be killed. A few days later, he contacted a policeman in the UK who told him he must be transferred to another prison. Then, he was asked to sign another document but he refused.

According to the same source, Khalifa said the policemen told him a mercenary would be assigned to assassinate him. “I told him French authorities had told me in 2003 that there was a murder plan against me. He told me it was about another threat. The information arrived to the UK via its embassy in Algiers.”
