Algeria’s approach to deal with unrest and files on the regional and international levels proved its effectiveness over time, Foreign Minister, Abdelkader Messahel, said.

“Solution of crises should not go beyond mediation, dialogue and non-interference in the affairs of states.”

Messahel explained, in a speech that was delivered on his behalf by the Ministry’s General Secretary, Noureddine Ayadi, during a parliamentary day on the 40th anniversary of parliamentary diplomacy on Sunday, at Algiers Palais des Congrès, Abdellatif Rahal, on the repercussions of the crises of the region, that the strategy that is adopted by Algeria in resolving crises and counter terrorism is a clear recognition of the positive role that is played by the Algerian diplomacy abroad.

He asserted the readiness of his services to coordinate between the positions of official diplomacy and its parliamentary counterpart in relation to crises and files in the region, in order to avoid any conflicts or differences in the views and positions that are issued by the state institutions.

“Algeria will stick to its approach to settle disputes and crises in a peaceful manner, and activate the various platforms in defense of the peoples’ important issues, as it has done in both Mali and Libya, and calls for it today in Syria and Yemen.

For his part, Speaker of the National People’s Assembly, Said Bouhadja, said that the parliamentary diplomacy in its logic and the process of its activity represents a continuous and effective support for official diplomacy in the implementation of the Algerian foreign policy and contribute to the realization of the supreme interests of the state.

Bouhadja added that parliamentary diplomacy is the extension of citizenship to the logic of the state and its rationality, even if the method of parliamentary interaction differs from the governmental method.

“Different levels of commitment in terms of positions, decisions and recommendations do not contradict and can not contradict the foreign policy of the state, because it serves its priorities and complete the official diplomatic work”.

Participants in the parliamentary session on the 40th anniversary of parliamentary diplomacy 1977-2017 agreed on the prominent role that is played by the Algerian diplomacy in solving the crises and called for the necessity of steadfastness in the position of the Algerian state of not to interfere in the internal affairs of the countries.

Ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of foreign embassies that are accredited in Algeria, MPs and heads of the two chambers of parliament, Abdelkader Ben Saleh, Said Bouhadja, and the President of the Constitutional Council, Mourad Medelci, attended the parliamentary session.
