Messahel: “We Will Work Hard To Cope With Trump's Blameworthy Decision”

Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister, Abdelkader Messahel, said Saturday in Cairo, at the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States, dedicated to the review of the situation in Palestine, that the decision of the US administration to recognize “El-Quds Echarif” as the capital of Israel constituted a serious violation of international law and relevant UN decisions.

In his speech before the Council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs immediately stressed that this reprehensible and dangerous decision constitutes a serious violation of international legality and UN decisions.

He further stated that the US administration’s untoward decision came at a time when a new initiative was expected to revitalize the peace process in the region, adding that the US move would spawn negative repercussions on the stability of the entire region.

In this context, he  highlighted the imperious need for a concerted action to cope with this decision, while calling on the international community to fully assume its responsibilities towards the oppressed Palestinian people and to put an end to the suffering the latter have been enduring since the brutal occupation of their territory by the Zionist entity.

Mr Messahel added the American administration, through this blameworthy decision, has now forsaken its attitude of neutrality concerning its mediation role and its responsibility in reactivating the peace process in the Mid-East region.

While reaffirming Algeria’s firm stance in support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to establish their independent state, with El-Quds as its capital, Mr Messahel recalled that the instability in the Arab world is closely linked to the failure of the international community to  thrash out a just, comprehensive and definitive solution to the Palestinian issue.

Finally, Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel recalled that the outcome of any effort to cope with this adverse situation remains dependent on the resistance of the brotherly Palestinian people and their ability to regain and safeguard their unity and cohesion, through a effective and urgent achievement of a genuine inter-Palestinian reconciliation, under a responsible attitude that puts their legitimate cause above all other considerations.
