Negotiations Underway To Establish A French University in Algeria

Mr. Bouchard Christophe, Director of the Agency for the Teaching of the French Language Abroad, chaired on Sunday the official opening ceremony of the French school in Oran, where about 50 students from the French community living in the west of the country are studying, in addition to Algerians.

On the sidelines of the opening of the French school in Oran, Mr. Bouchard Christophe revealed other ongoing education-related projects in this regard.

He pointed to this effect to the opening of a similar school in Annaba (eastern Algeria) next year, adding that the opening of the Oran school comes in the context of 500 educational institutions operating outside the French territory, with 350,000 pupils studying 137 countries worldwide.

In this connection, Mr. Bouchard Christophe stressed that negotiations are under way to establish a French university in Algeria and will see progress in the coming months, while pointing to a number of agreements that will  bring Algerian universities together with their French counterparts in the field of education and scientific research, in addition to the setting up of five French institutes spread across the nation’s provinces, which will involve thousands of young students.

Meanwhile, the Cultural Attaché of the French Embassy in Algeria confirmed on Sunday the issuance of 8,500 visas for Algerian university students keen to study at French universities.
