People Involved In Bribery, Looting Of Public Money To Serve Life Sentences

Justice Minister reviewed the legislative provisions for the protection of public money and property from looting and the encirclement of financial crimes, which include the tightening of sanctions on this type of crimes, which reach life imprisonment, while the statistics of the ministry recorded 4523 cases of serious corruption in the period between 2014 and 2017, including issues that are related to bribery, embezzlement and and granting unjustified privileges in public transactions.

An official source told Echorouk, on Monday, that the committee that is charged with revising the legislative texts on the protection of public money, property, looting and the combatting financial crimes is in the process of finalizing these texts, and will be lifted to the Justice Minister, Tayeb Louh, soon.

“In detail, the new texts are based on ensuring that legislation conforms to the new model of development and protects public money, resources and economic wealth from all forms of looting and corruption, as the sanctions will be toughened on those involved in corruption, bribery and financial crimes. Combating these crimes is not limited to the deterrent side only, but is based on transparency in the conduct of public affairs, by raising the level of coordination more between the authorities and the State’s interests to combat financial and economic crimes, and strengthening the legal and regulatory arrangements that allow more transparency and integrity on the relationship between public life and the rest of other interests”.

In the language of figures, Echorouk source revealed that between 2014 and 2017, the judicial services addressed 4,523 corruption cases that are classified as “dangerous and very serious”, including cases of bribery, embezzlement, unjustified concessions in public transactions, and public prosecutions.
