Potatoes' retailers supported by government to break prices

Govrnment will take new measures to curb speculation in the prices of potatoes, whic noticed a high record in the last two months, as retailers will be supplied with potatoes directly from the cold stores and this without passing on brokers and wholesale market, General Manager of the central business of the public institution brench of cold stores in centeral areas, Djaafar Chiboub told Algeria First Nationsl Rdio on Sunday.

“Potatoes prices empties pokets of Algerians because some brokers invest in this crises and speculate in prices. Public institution of cold stores in central regions developed a new plan to counter speculation, especially since retailers assert that the cause of high prices of potatoes are the wholesale markets”.

“This strategy was applied since two weeks and will contribute to the stability of the prices of potatoes in the Algerian market, as potatoes prices will decrease in the next days, and the price per kilogram reached 55 DZD with calculating the profit margin, which is estimated to 5 Dinars for the merchant when selling directly potatoes to the customer.
