Secretary General of Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN) Amar Saidani expressed reservations about a visit paid by the European Union, saying he met Ali Benflis, an opposition leader on Wednesday.

“Many actions done by the European Union are worrying us. Algeria is independent and paid one million and a half martyrs. It can not be exposed to foreign interference,” Saidani told journalists.

He received the EU delegation under Maghreb Division chief Bernard Savage at the headoffice of his party on Wednesday. They talked about political, economic and security issues.

“We want to know the persons who met the EU official,” he added.

This comes as Savage held talks with the coordinator of Change Forces Pole Ali Benflis in presence of the leaders of the National Reform Movement, the New Algeria Front and El Fadjer El Djadid.

“The EU should reveal its agenda in Algeria. Our country is not in a political crisis,” said Saidani.

Savage denied interference allegations, saying he was in Algeria to hold talks in political, social, security and economic fields.

He also said the meetings with different parties and representatives of civil society are part of relations between the EU and its neighbors.
