Security Services Dismantle A Terrorist Cell That Calls Itself “Single Wolves” Western Algeria

Security services of Mascara (western Algeria) dismantled, on Saturday, an 11-member terrorist cell that called itself “Individual Wolves”, when it was in contact with ISIS leaders abroad, in order to recruit Algerian youth to its ranks.
In a statement to Echorouk on Monday, the public prosecutor at Mascara Court, Nait Sidi Ahmed Djaffar, revealed that the police officers of the security directorate of Mascara province (western Algeria), overthrew nine people who formed a supporting and back up cell for ISIS abroad.
Representative of the Public Prosecution stated that members of the cell praised the work of terrorist groups by circulating publications praising their activities on social networks.
Police Department Within the context of its activity in monitoring social networks, combating cyber crime and exploiting information, it was able to monitor the activity of 11 people who used social networks, publications and electronic supports to disseminate and praise terrorist activities and acts, and to establish contacts between suspects and other persons from outside the country, including some elements of them abroad who carry a jihadist nickname that is inspired by the hard-line ideology of ISIS.
Investigations also revealed that the cell’s members were exploiting an encrypted application that is used by terrorist groups to communicate within their cell.
The public prosecutor explained that the policemen and after collecting sufficient data under the supervision of the prosecution which extended its jurisdiction to areas within the territory of the Judicial Council of Mascara, they reached the identification of 11 individuals aged between 25 and 38 years, nine of them were arrested, an they are all from the province and two come from another areas outside Mascara and still wanted by security services.
The detainees were arrested with the possession of PCs, magnetic supports, mobile phones and a flag that is related to ISIS, and some of them called themselves “Single Wolves.”
The nine detainees were brought before the public prosecutor of Mascara Court and the case was referred to the investigating judge, ordering them to be placed in provisional detention on charges of establishing and organizing a terrorist group that aimed at targeting state security, national unity, territorial integrity, stability and normal functioning of institutions, involvement and participation in terrorist acts, and praising for those acts.
The process of presenting the defendants lasted for many hours, from 9 am on Sunday to 2:00 am Monday, with the operation being briefed on tight security around the court.
