Ships loaded with cars stuck at ports
Car dealers face a real crisis after the government had published new specifications on Wednesday in the official journal. It gives a 6-month-deadline for car dealers to get adapted to the new conditions.
Tens of ships loaded with cars coming from different European and Asian countries have an unknown fate following the publication of the new specifications.
The specifications raised a large debate among car dealers. They include a detailed definition of new cars and determined car dealers’ importing, maintenance and insurance-related responsibility.
The specifications gave a 90-day-deadline to car dealers to market their cars after customers pay 20 percent of the price. Car dealers also should sign an exclusive and direct contract with manufacturers and carry on an investment activity within no more than 3 years.
Car dealers described those conditions as “difficult to meet.”
