Spain Deports 40 Algerian “Harraga” Towards The Port Of Oran

On Sunday, the Port of Oran in western Algeria received 40 “Harraga” or illegal migrants deported from Spain after spending weeks at the level of the prison of Archidona in Malaga, among the groups that started in November to reach more than 700 people, 500 of whom were placed at the prison level.

Spain began carrying out its threats to deport back home the Algerian “Harraga” who reached the coast of Cartagena last November.

The first day was the deportation of 40 youths to the Port of Oran, preventing them from entering Spanish territory again.

Spain plans to deport more in the coming weeks and at the beginning of 2018, in a reaction to the steady influx towards Spanish coasts of a huge number of Algerian “Harraga”.

Spanish officials summoned the Algerian diplomats in Madrid, to whom they expressed their serious concern about the growing phenomenon, and explicitly accused Algeria of “lax handling” of boats leaving the country’s western coasts, at an average of 50 boats carrying Algerian illegal migrants in over two days.

In the aftermath of the overcrowding crisis of the centers of illegal immigrants in Carthage and Murcia, more than 500 “Harraga” were transferred to the Archediona prison in Malaga in deplorable conditions, prompting the detainees to stage protests, and this was a direct cause of the deportation of the first group of them.

Meanwhile, several political groups and officials in the Spanish government have agreed to receive more Algerian, Moroccan and African “harraga”.

They called for an end to this human migratory flow, while dealing with urgent humanitarian cases such as sick patients, pregnant women, those under age and persons to be taken care of by their own relatives in Spain itself or in neighboring France.
