Trade Ministry decides, days before the start of the 18th Edition of Algiers International Car Show, to prevent the marketing of vehicles that were manufactured before March 2014, calling upon the licensed car concessionaires to respect the new book of conditions, which includes preventing the marketing of cars which the difference between the date of manufacture and entry to Algeria does not exceed 12 months.

Sources from the Trade Ministry told Echorouk that the latter will send instruction, which is the first of its kind, to the accredited cars concessionaires, about preventing the marketing of vehicles that were produced before March 2014, at the Algiers International Car Show, which will start on March 18, and required the inclusion of the production date in the contract of sale, a code that would confuse some agents, especially since the majority of cars that are placed in warehouses were manufactured before that date, including cars that were produced in 2008, and which represent 90% of the cars that are destined for the exhibition.
According to the same sources, Trade Ministry aims through the issuance of this instruction to stand in the face of the abuses that are committed in Algiers Car Show by some cars agents, especially since most of the cars that are marketed in Algeria are manufactured before March 2014, including vehicles that are produced even in 2008, though they are unused cars that have never been sold, in addition to an increase on the import procedures, demand and customs procedures which takes at least 6 months for vehicles’ entry to the port.
For his part, Toyota Algeria Commercial Manager, Farid Zouak, said in a statement to Echorouk, that the application of such instruction would affect the cars’ agents, particularly since the International Car sShow, which will start on March 18.
“Majority of the cars in warehouses are manufactured before March 2014, and therefore it is unreasonable to apply this code. It will be directed to the new imported cars, in accordance with the new Executive Decree No. 15-58 that is issued on February, 8, 2015 and which is fixing the conditions and ways to exercise the commercial vehicles agents activity in Article N° 2.”
Previously, a large number of car agents asked the Industry Ministry to give them a deadline to adapt to the new conditions’ book, especially since the cars that are in warehouses were brought in accordance with the agreements and previous orders in line with the old law, which made the immediate application of the new conditions’ book impossible for considering the presence of a large number of cars in stock for marketing at International Cars Show, and they are manufactured before 2014.
